The Four Elements to Creating an Amazing Entrance

An entrance sets the tone for the home, it’s the first thing you see as you come through the front door. An entrance warmly welcomes family and friends, inviting them in to enjoy their stay. It gives new visitors an indication of your personality, it creates an atmosphere hinting at what’s to come. The last thing you see before you leave the house for work and the first thing you see when you come home after a long day. Your entrance acts as a familiar hug, a reminder to take a deep breath and relax… you’re home.

When designing your entry  space, be mindful of the tone you want to create. Do you want your guests to open the door and be swept off their feet with the ‘wow’ factor? Do you want to create an elegant and expensive look, that takes them on a luxury vacation? Or perhaps a calm and balanced space speaks more to your personality.

Regardless of your style, look at your home as one cohesive space, letting the design aesthetic flow from room to room.

We believe that every great entrance space has 4 main elements and is made complete with our own unique finishing touches of personality.

The Foundation

Nothing says welcome home like a warm textured rug under bare feet. Be mindful of selecting a piece that is both practical and proportional to your space. While a warm sheepskin rug may seem incredibly inviting on a cold winter morning, if in a high foot traffic area it may hold onto dirt that is tracked in from outside, or pose an obstacle for high heels to get caught in.

Dress the Walls

A central focus to draw the eye, whether this be a piece of feature artwork or a beautifully framed wall mirror. This creates direction and ties the space together. A mirror is great for checking your appearance before you leave the house and adds a level of dimension, increasing the size of your space. While a piece of artwork can add character and bold hits  of colour.

Everything has it's Place

A console table is an essential item that grounds the space, adding a dimension of height. It provides a surface to place more decorative elements; such as your collection of candles and trinkets, a bowl to hold your keys, or even a bottle of perfume for one last spritz as you leave the house. Selecting a piece of furniture that can accommodate all these elements prevents this area from becoming a dumping ground, and creates a balanced calmness in this space.

Let there be Light

There is nothing worse than coming home from a long day of work to a dark and gloomy house. A warm light brightens up your familiar space, allowing all the features of this space to catch the light and welcome you home. Whether it be a glittering feature pendant that ties everything together to create a grand entrance, or a smaller table lamp that creates a dimly lit cozy feel, choose something that enhances the tone and frames the proportions of your space.

Your Own Finishing Touches

There is a fine line between styling and cluttering. When decorating, be aware of the pieces that add unique value and personality to your hallway. Think to yourself, does this piece create a special look and feeling to the area? Does it reflect my personality? Does it enhance your home or is it just filling the space? Ornaments, flowers and trinkets can unveil elements of your personality in your space. Vibrant colourful flowers add bold playfulness, delicate stemmed roses add elegance and luxury, while big textured leaves add a fresh clean feel. While all uniquely beautiful on their own, too many different elements can overcrowd a small space causing clashes in the tone and feel. Let your space breathe.
