As we start heading into the tail end of the year, the urge to redecorate becomes more and more enticing. A fresh new space encourages us to declutter, getting rid of old and tired things to bring in exciting new energy. The novelty of change creates feelings of joy and celebration … just in time for summer!
There are many ways to breathe fresh life into your home, from larger projects like refitting a room with new cabinetry and furniture, or smaller activities like swapping worn out or outdated decorative accents for new. This past year we have seen a range of beautiful innovative textiles taking centre stage in the interior design world. What better space to start playing with these than in your outdoor entertaining areas.
Gone are the days of dreary outdoor fabrics, that served the simple purpose of being practical and holding their shape in all kinds of weather. There is now a whole world of outdoor fabrics and design possibilities, with an exciting range of new textiles and textures. Our favourite would have to be the creation of the outdoor velvet, a material showcased throughout Bec Judd’s forever home in Melbourne. Velvet is a luxurious material that isn’t typically placed outdoors, due to its soft and shiny nature. This South Beach textile collection by Mokum is resilient and heavy duty, perfect for areas with high UV or exposure to water and weather. Available in a daring line of versatile neutrals and bold block colours and patterns, this allows for the continuation of luxury living from indoors to outdoors.
Another one of our favourites is 3 Beaches’ luxurious woven range, another textile designed to hold its quality even in extreme UV and severe weather conditions. While designed for outdoor use, these fabrics are still soft and delicate enough to be enjoyed indoors. Neutral tones or bold bright colours, the woven texturing creates a relaxed lounge mood.
If you’re still loving your outdoor lounge pieces but the fabrics are starting to fade or show signs of wear and tear, re-upholstering with a fresh new textile is a great way to bring them back to life. A new take on a bench or outdoor dining seating can add a pop of colour and interest to the space. Alternatively a simple way to refresh your space without too much cost and commitment, is by styling with new cushions that can be swapped in and out over the years. We have a range of luxury velvet and woven outdoor cushions available by order.
A Conversational Piece
We love the feel that fun feature items bring by adding character and accents of decor to a space. When entertaining your guests, it can feel disruptive to retreat back inside to pour yourself or your guests another drink. An outdoor bar cart creates a great conversation piece, allowing you to continue chatting with your guests as you shake up a cocktail. This also provides the perfect vessel to display a collection of beautiful glasses and bottles of liquor and any other decorative items. Our bar carts come in a range of different styles and colours that will perfectly complement your space, and are suitable for indoor and outdoor displays.
Lighting can make or break the space. In an outdoor entertaining space, lighting can add an extra layer of comfort, creating a moody oasis and an opportunity to bask in the balmy nights this summer. Wall lights are subtle and practical, bringing a bit of brightness to a space without taking away from the natural elements and can be placed on the outer walls or pillars of your home. To create more of a sultry mood, we love the look and feel of flickering candles placed on a table top. For a weather proof option, our flameless candles mimic the soft flickering glow without blowing out in the wind. (Read our top tips on lighting here).
